In the fall of 1960, I enrolled at the University of Oregon and graduated in June, 1964 with a BA in Accounting.  Since I wanted to pursue a career in public accounting I left Oregon and moved back to Anchorage where there were more opportunities than in the Northwest (for females, that is).

My first employment was with a local CPA firm, Hedla & Sherwood, where I spent three years.  In 1967, I accepted an offer from another local CPA firm, Johnson & Morgan.  I became a partner in Johnson & Morgan in 1970, became managing partner in 1980, and merged Johnson & Morgan into Touche Ross & Co. in 1984.  Touche Ross merged with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells to become Deloitte & Touche in 1989.  I was a partner with Deloitte & Touche until they closed their Anchorage office in 2001.

After 37 years of public accounting, I was ready for something new so became a Corporate Controller for a petroleum refining subsidiary of an Alaskan native corporation.  In 2004, I was offered a position in Seattle with a consulting firm wanting people with audit experience to do Sarbanes-Oxley internal control consulting.  My husband and I had wanted to move to the Northwest for some time, so we used that opportunity to make the move.  After 49 years in Anchorage, I moved to Seattle.

As far as personal life goes, I married Clyde Sherwood (one of my former bosses) in 1979.  He was quite a bit older than I and had heart problems which caused his death in 1987.  It is the story of the WWII guys who all smoked (even when they had congenital heart disease).  He passed away at age 61.

In 1990 I married Pete Sloane, and we are still together.  Will wonders never cease!!  We live in Edmonds, WA., which is about 15 miles north of Seattle, have a house with a lovely view of Puget Sound, and love entertaining all our Anchorage friends as they fly through Seattle.

In the summer of 2008 I decided to retire because Pete and I want to move to the Oregon coast (where I was from before my parents moved me to Anchorage in 1955).  After having our house on the market last year for eight months without an offer, we have decided to stay in Edmonds for a few years to see what happens real-estate-wise.  A former client called and made me an offer I could not refuse, so I am working again in downtown Seattle for a medical insurance company as a financial reporting director.  However, I only work a reduced schedule four days a week, and I intend to retire again by the end of April, 2010.  It is time to do some traveling.

Pete and I will be in Anchorage in June, 2010 for the reunion, so I expect to see you all!!
