Our class motto was “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”.  Well, here’s another one – “So long as enthusiasm lasts, so long is youth still with us”.

After graduation, I headed south to Salinas, California to attend Hartnell Jr. College.  This was my first time on a plane and out of Alaska, so everything was pretty amazing to me.  While at Hartnell, I continued my cheerleading career and quickly earned my doctorate degree in Social Activities.

Upon my return to Alaska, I landed a job with the State of Alaska, Dept. of  Natural Resources.  During my 30+ year career with them, I held various jobs ending with Natural Resource Manager.  I was fortunate to be a part of a department during early statehood whose quest it was to develop natural resources in a sustainable and environmentally sound way.

I had a part in many oil and gas lease sales, the main one being the 1969 North Slope sale that brought to the state’s coffers almost 1 billion dollars.  Later on, I managed the state’s land sale programs within its southcentral region.  Today, there are several thousand acres of privately owned land because of the state’s  remote parcel, homestead and homesite programs.

Over and above the job experiences, I developed many lifelong friendships with those I worked with.  I retired in 1994 at the ripe “old” age of 51.

During my working years, I got involved with helping organize our class reunions.  This has allowed me to find and stay in touch with old, dear friends.   I have learned that one of the most important aspects of a rewarding life is having good friends.

I have been married to George for 25 years.  We have no children, but we do have our beloved pets, Emma, our springer spaniel and Fat Jackson, our manx cat.  We own a plane which allows us to go about anywhere we want to.  George is the pilot, God is the co-pilot, and I just go along for the ride.  My favorite pastimes are reading, gardening, stained glass art, quilting, cooking, watching classic movies and going to a weekly bible study.  Oh yes, I forgot….organizing Class of 1960 reunions!
