Ft Rich CAPC Drum and Bugle Corps 1960
This was filmed at Armed Forces Day on Ft. Richardson in 1960. Bob Clark is the drum major
This video of 4th Ave taken by my mother (Dad was driving) in Dec 1956. It starts out at the Hollywood Shopping Center on Government Hill (briefly) and then moves from one end of 4th Ave to the other. It shows a lot of the businesses (lots of bars) that I'm sure have gone, but some of the present landmarks (4th Ave Theater). It was late afternoon, so it is a little dark, but the neon shows how 4th Ave was lit up for business. How many remember that Anchorage was a 1956 All America City?
This is of the last CAPC Summer Encampment for the Class of 1960. There are many of our classmates in this one. It was taken by my mom during the Pass in Review ceremony at the end of the Encampment. In the general order of appearance, here are the cast of characters (I do mean that literally, in some cases):
Mike Duggan

Bob Clark

Helen Milner (Class of 61

Julie Edwards (Class of 61)

Craig Vetter

Tim Trueblood

Mike Popelka

Ramona Bell

Jeannie Perkins

Charlie Wells

Terry Berkshire

Brian Hawkins

Jerry Peters

Jay Stonebraker (?)

Paxton Oborn (?) (Class of 62?)

Mike Duggan opntinues: I think I covered all of the Class of 1960 who I could positively identify in the video......Bill Hilbert said he was there, but I can't find him.....my apologies to those I missed.....blame it on my age and bad eyesight.
Ft. Rich CAPCadet Drum & Bugle Corps given at the Armed Forces Day held at Fort Richardson (across the street from our quarters) in 1960. Bob Clark was the Drum Major. Tim and I got in trouble at this one. When my Dad went marching by our house, we started laughing and cat calling him from our front porch. A little while later, he showed up with his CO to ensure we were properly indoctrinated on military protocol. Not a fun moment.
The 1957 Fur Rendezvous was held on 4th Ave in Anchorage in 1957. It starts with the dog teams mushing down 4th Ave to begin the race, then goes on to the blanket toss, merry go round, and then to the furs... that's Dad looking them over.
